About the Marketplace Merchandising team

Create consumer right cross-category assortments market-wide to ensure a segmented, productive and profitable marketplace

About the role

The goal of this newly created role is to create strategic and productive cross-category assortments for new digital commerce partners in Japan. This role will require strong strategic skills in order to develop a merchandising plan that serves a new consumer profile that is aligned to key cross-functional partners. He/she will also need to have an entrepreneurial mindset in order to build and grow this new channel for Nike Japan. This role will require some travel to Nike Headquarters in Portland, Oregon.


  1. Create and scale cross-category assortments to support the Zozotown and Rakuten businesses and to monitor seasonal trading trading, seeking opportunities to drive growth.

  2. Align assortment strategies with Geo/Territory Nike Direct teams and partner with retail planners to support account strategy, retail capacity, product flow.

  3. Partner with Geo/Territory Marketplace Merchants and other Strategic Account Merchants to ensure cross-channel assortments are harmonized at the country level.

  4. Determine account differentiation with potential product exclusives at the country level.

  5. Present assortment strategy to business partners as needed.

  6. Provide consumer and pos insights to Geo Merchandising to ensure product needs are communicated.

  7. Refine and align the product strategy based on business results and consumer insights.


  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree or additional 2 years of experience in lieu of degree.

  • At least 5 years’ experience in merchandising, product creation, and or retail, in a vertical or wholesale environment.

  • Digital proficiency in retail and profit based metrics.

  • Assortment planning experience.

  • A keen understanding of the Nike consumer and marketplace.

  • A high taste level for product.

  • An ability to employ retail acumen and proven storytelling capabilities.

  • Fluency in business level Japanese and English.
