Description

As a Yarn Innovator within Nike’s Innovation Footwear Material Team (NXT FM), you will generate material solutions for Flyknit and other performance based knit and woven products being designed and developed for sport performance footwear. You will be asked to provide technical expertise during the development of yarns for textile applications that will be used to fuel and support new product concepts and strategic development efforts within NXT FM agenda and Nike Innovation Team.

You’ll be responsible for generating ideas and solving complex problems, at the yarn level, that relate to Athlete* performance. You will be responsible for producing proof of concept yarn samples up to initial commercialization scale quantities. You will also be responsible for determining how those yarn properties translate into performance benefits in the final shoe through laboratory testing and collaborations with various Nike innovation teams.

You will collaborate with NXT Footwear Design, NXT Product Development, Knit Innovation and Advanced Manufacturing teams to research and develop new performance yarn solutions for Flyknit and other sport performance footwear.

As a yarn expert you will work with external yarn suppliers and manufacturers, resin suppliers, textile technology providers, textile mills, equipment suppliers, and laboratories to create innovative solutions that meet all required performance specifications in yarn, textile, and shoe form. You will also collaborate to establish test methods for yarns and materials projects that fall outside the normal realm of industry standard procedures; using internal and external testing resources when appropriate. You will also be responsible for conducting presentations and educational seminars to inform and educate developers, designers, and other Nike team members about advanced yarn, textile and material technologies.

Emphasis is placed on being a creative innovator in the yarn space. In particular, one who is able to ideate unique material solutions and think through the technical implications that may impact yarn manufacturing.
