Description

As our Innovator 2 in cushioning you will work closely with our design team, simulation team, project managers and other innovators to invent, evaluate, understand, develop and improve Nike’s Cushioning Technologies and the processes by which they are made. You will be expected to provide plastics processing expertise and conduct designed experiments to further our ability to create great new cushioning systems that help the athlete excel. You will lead, mentor and train others on the operation of machinery and process variables. You will be responsible for some day to day tasks related to laboratory safety, machinery maintenance and supplies. You will specify, install, program, setup and operate plastics processing equipment such as thermoformers, radio frequency welders, injection molders, robotic apparatus, laser welders and a variety of other processing equipment. You will research and evaluate new equipment and processes from outside venues such as trade shows, vendors, universities and research partners based on Nike’s business needs. You will become familiar with standard footwear processes and shoemaking practices and incorporate this knowledge into new ways to integrate cushioning systems into product. You will primarily work on R&D projects to gain the required processing information then transfer that to our manufacturing team for commercialization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM field and 5+ years relevant work experience in plastics processing

  • Ideal candidate would have Design of Experiment experience and systematic research methodology knowledge.

  • Footwear or sporting goods experience helpful

  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D design software for tooling and machinery reviews and modifications

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes for plastics forming, joining, trimming and decorating

  • Knowledge of control systems operation, design and troubleshooting desired

  • Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electromechanical and thermal systems

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Good communication skills with ability to present to large groups of varying audiences

  • Demonstrated creative entrepreneurial innovation aptitude desired

  • Experience managing new product or new process development desired

  • Materials and mechanics of material knowledge desired
