Description

As our Director of Textile Material Palettes, you’ll use your extensive materials knowledge, deep collaborative, and leadership skills to deliver several strategically important textile material palettes to the Footwear Material community. This role is accountable for the analysis, development, commercialization and downstream communication cross-category textile materials. Through close partnership with our Material Procurement team, you'll drive material analysis and the development of analytical tools to bring about material consolidation and standardization. You will brief specifications to a global supply chain and drive the delivery of multi-sourced materials from new locations of supply unlocking substantial commercial opportunities in the process. You will research and develop palette materials with environmentally preferred raw materials and manufacturing techniques. This role is key in supporting Nikes corporate goal of reducing our environmental impact.

You will be accountable for vendor partner communications and driving multiple simultaneous developments. You will leverage resources within the Nike Liaison Offices to drive commercialization activities in line with project timelines. You will be required to collaborate with Material Development and Design teams to create and execute physical and virtual tools that support business goals and meet internal needs in the adoption of such materials. Additionally you will be responsible for effectively managing people and providing coaching for individual and team success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Textiles, Materials, Engineering, Manufacture, Design or equivalent

  • 2 years' experience may be substituted for a degree

  • Minimum of 8 years' relevant work experience, which may include material research, development or manufacturing experience

  • Footwear, Apparel or similar consumer goods product development process knowledge is strongly preferred

  • Track record in working within a Global material supply chain

  • Experience with 3rd party/vendor engagement, materials, or related development projects

  • Expert understanding of textile manufacture (fiber, yarn, textile, dyeing, printing, and finishing)

  • Deep knowledge of the textile construction / engineering

  • Ability to interpret material intent and offer alternative solutions

  • Understanding of manufacturing realities and constraints

  • Strong knowledge of material testing

  • Knowledge of footwear manufacture a plus

  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel and the ability to work with large data sets

  • Able to anticipate needs, solve problems, perform research, and analyze results

  • Attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple priorities

  • Able to negotiate and influence with sensitivity for the creative process

  • Able to be assertive, self-motivated and work in a team environment

  • Sensitivity to different cultures, customs, and business practices

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
