As our Equipment and Design Engineer, you will join the team to design tooling, fixturing, machine components and many other items related to our business. By using your experience in 3D design and engineering, as well as experience and insights in equipment design and tooling, you’ll identify and create the solution path given the problem(s) or project(s) to which you are assigned. You’ll use concept sketches, 3D design software, layout software, engineering, machine design knowledge and ideas, and hands on experience to explore, design, refine and carefully document tooling designs and machine components. You’ll work with other designers, engineers, maintenance, and production staff to deliver and lead design projects, keeping in mind the current state of manufacturing, while always looking forward at new methods, tooling, or processes to push the boundaries of how new products can be manufactured. You will continually research, explore and educate yourself and others on evolving technologies, processes or tooling which makes new innovations in product design or manufacturing possible.
You will conduct and lead projects in a variety of areas. Manufacturing equipment layout and optimization. Safety issue resolution. Continuous improvement projects. Design, hardware and equipment projects of many types and varieties.
You’ll use various methods of communication to assure key stakeholders are informed of your progress on projects. Often you will collaborate with internal customers, external vendors, and other teams to ensure your designs meet the needs of each project you are involved on.
You will teach and train others regarding your projects and the implementation of these projects.
You’ll stay up to date on the critical skills required for your job through on-site training, conferences, or other functions which enable you to maintain a high level of performance.
BS Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or Plastics Engineering, including 5+ years’ experience in the fields of mechanical design and engineering, and/or product design, engineering and tooling design.
Proficiency in Solidworks and AutoCAD design software is required
Experience in the design for manufacture of plastic consumer products is a plus
Proven track record of innovative design skills on complex consumer products is a plus
Strong equipment skills and machine design ability.
Ability to handle multiple competing projects simultaneously
Ability to analyze complex problems, develop innovative solutions and deal with ambiguity and frequent changes in priorities
Strong written and verbal skills is required
Good ability to work with teams. Listen to and gather input and perspectives. Communicate effectively.
Some lifting of tooling, parts, and various equipment (up to 40lb)
Ability to travel domestically on occasion
