Converse serves the daring spirit of youth. Our social channels act as our daily editorial expression of Converse within youth culture. The Social Media Senior Manager at Converse serves as the editor of these spaces, defining how Converse should show up to our consumers, fans, and the world at large within the social media universe – which is kind of the whole universe right now, tbh.
As the foremost expert on and advocate for social media in the building, you would shape and evolve Converse’s tone of “voice” and behavior as a contributor to youth culture across all relevant platforms – the ones that exist today, and the ones that will pop up tomorrow. We are looking for someone who lives social from a content consumption perspective – someone who can tell you the best Snap accounts, the funniest things on Instagram, which brands have done an amazing job, and who messed up badly. At Converse, we are who we’re friends with – and defining social media strategy and programs that go beyond @Converse accounts to leverage the channels of our collaborators, co-creators and talent who works with us will be a huge part of the job.
While millions of people buy Converse every year, visiting our stores and website, this only accounts for a small portion of the time someone might spend with our brand. It’s the stuff they encounter every day from us - on social media, sharing our products, seeing them worn by friends and people they look up to – that defines who we are as a brand to the kids out there. Social media and our presence there is what fuels this everyday chance for people to love us. The Social Media Senior Manager should set out to win the internet every day for Converse. We know it won’t always happen, but when it does…boom.
Define the macro short and long-term goals for Converse in the social space – from how we want to grow our fanbases on various platforms, to how we want to leverage native tools to creative content, to how we should be effectively leveraging the fans of celebrity talent, and more.
Create and lead the execution of global plans that help us achieve these goals, at a brand and product level.
Set the expectation for what success looks like, in alignment with our micro and macro goals - from the benchmarks within platforms we should be looking to go beyond, to which tools we use to measure success.
Actively participate in the creative development process, working in sync with the Global Brand Communications leads to ensure that we’re creating with social media behaviors and formats at the core.
Package and present brand social media perspective and programs at all levels of the company, from regional teams up to marketing leadership.
Immerse culturally in the world of our fans and consumers – youth culture isn’t something you can understand from a research report, so living and breathing their world is key.
Work closely with Media Director on how we leverage paid social media offerings, specific to each channel.
Define how Converse derives insights and learnings from reporting and data, and create innovative ways to express what we’re achieving in social media with our consumer.
Explore and test programs for broader use, such as social media shopping solutions, Live broadcasts via social platforms, and other innovative ways to use advancements in the space.
Monitor the competition and be aware of market changes and developments, but ensure that we remain proactive and not reactive to what they’re doing.
In partnership with the media team, define how Converse derives insights and learnings from reporting and data, and create innovative ways to express to internal non-experts what we’re achieving in social media with our consumer.
In partnership with the media and digital teams, explore and test programs for broader use, such as social media shopping solutions, Live broadcasts via social platforms, and other innovative ways to use advancements in the space.
A social media/editorial background at a website, magazine, social media platform, agency, or at another brand, with a minimum of 5 years experience. Technical knowledge of social platforms is of course required, but social storytelling skills are far more important.
Resourceful, innovative and flexible, with the ability to set and define tasks for yourself and the team. Tell us where we need to go and how we need to get there.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their place in culture and the lives of kids today, primarily focusing on teen/early 20’s global audience.
Experience executing programs with partners like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, either from the editorial, agency, or brand side.
Ability to communicate complex ideas and information simply, up to the communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format to board level, and build and maintain relationships.
Strong leadership skills and experience managing both up and down within an organization
Great technical understanding and can pick up new tools quickly.
